MIDNIGHT QUEEN

Black cat

MIDNIGHT QUEEN

She walks the street

alone and aloof,

hides in the shadows

quiet and discreet.

She knows no place

she can call her own,

sad eyes and hunger

written on her face.

She licks at sores

from abuse and neglect

like thrown out trash

that collects outdoors.

Mangy and unkempt

She gleans what she can

living off refuse

where the homeless slept.
